Powerful Mantra Meditation Techniques to Open Chakra Points

To understand the meditation techniques involved in opening chakra points, we first need to understand what exactly chakra points are. Chakras are energy vortexes that reside along different spots on the spine. The first chakra is located at the base of the spine while the last one occurs at the crown of the head. The other chakras are active between these two points. The following are the seven chakras located along the spinal column.
  • The Mooladhara chakra or root centre which is located between the genitals and the anus.
  • The Swadhistana chakra or sex centre located around the lower back.
  • The Manipura chakra or navel centre located a bit above the level of the navel.
  • The Anahata chakra or heart centre located at the level of the heart.
  • The Vishuddhi chakra or throat centre located at the base of the throat.
  • The Ajna chakra or third eye centre located slightly above the point between the eyebrows.
  • And finally the Sahasrara chakra or the crown centre located on the top of the head.
One popular guided meditation technique is the mantra meditation where you need to assume different positions known as mudras to open various chakras. There is also chanting of sounds involved to enhance the effect. In these practises, “A” is chanted as “ah” and “M” is chanted as “mng”.
  • To open the root centre, you need to gently bring your thumb and index finger in contact and concentrate on that chakra. You also need to chant the sound “LAM”.
  • Next is the sex centre. To open this chakra, you need to put your hands in your lap and place your palms one on top of the other facing upwards. The left hand needs to be placed below with the back of the fingers touching the right hand. Touching the tips of the thumbs gently, you need to concentrate on the Swadhistana chakra and chant the sound “VAM”.
  • To open the navel centre, you have to place your hands in front of your stomach and join the tips of your fingers facing away from you. Keep your fingers straight and cross your thumbs before you concentrate on the navel centre and chant the “RAM” sound.
  • Next in line is the heart chakra. To open this chakra you need to sit cross-legged touching the tips of your thumbs with the tip of your index fingers. In the same position, put your left hand on your knee and place your right hand below the breast bone at the centre of your chest. Concentrate on the heart chakra and chant “YAM”.
  • To open the throat centre, you need to cross your fingers on the inside of your hands and let the thumbs touch at the tops forming a kind of a circle. Concentrate on the throat centre and chant “HAM”.
  • Place your hands before the lower part of your chest making your middle fingers straight touching at the tips pointing forward. The other fingers are bent touching at the upper two phalanges. With the thumbs in contact and pointing towards you, you need to chant the “AUM” mantra.
  • To open the final crown chakra, you need to place your hands before your stomach with the ring fingers pointing up touching at the tips. The rest of the fingers need to be crossed with the left thumb underneath the right one. Once you do this, you need to concentrate on the crown chakra and chant “NG”.
These techniques need to be practised under the guidance of experience gurus since the side effects can be adverse. These meditation techniques will help you delve into the deepest corners of your spiritual existence.
